Craftsman Snow Throwers: Great Value At Great Prices
Craftsman snow throwers offer consumers with great budget choices when they shop for snow blowers and throwers. Craftsman is one of the most popular brands of snow throwers especially since it is affiliated with Sears. The company currently distributes its excellent snow machines exclusively through Sears. This setup has provided them with ready popularity due to the popularity of the Sears brand. Aside from that, this has added up to a great sales distribution process since consumers immediately know where to go when they need a Craftsman Snow Blower. Currently, Craftsman offers several different models that meet various needs and price ranges so consumers can choose the best model for them.
Single-Stage Options
For single-stage needs, there are several single-Stage Snow throwers from Craftsman. One of the classic single-stage options from the company is the 179cc 4-cycle Single-Stage Snow Thrower with Electric Start, which is available at around $469. The snow thrower features the classic Craftsman Electric engine that offers great performance at less time and reduced work. You also do not have to mix oil and gas anymore. The push-button electric start also allows easy start for easy operation. The machine boasts of a 21” clearing path, an EZ chute control and auger propellers.
However, if you want something more affordable, check out the 123cc 4-cycle single-stage snow thrower, which is available at $349. The machine uses a 123cc Craftsman engine which delivers excellent engine performance. It can clear snow up to 21 inches wide and can be easily used with its auger propellers. Its 9-inch auger with rubber paddles ensures that snow is thrown far. It also comes with an EZ chute control for adjustable snow throw direction.
Two-Stage Offers
Craftsman also offers great models of two-stage snow blowers. Two-stage snow throwers are used for heavier snow conditions, so they tend to be bulky and heavy. One highly compact model from Craftsman, however, is the 179cc 22-inch Compact Two-Stage Snow Thrower. The machine is specifically engineered to take up less space but still provide amazing power. It has a 16” intake height and a 22” clearing width. It features Snow Hog tires that do not require chains. Other features include a push-button electric start, a power-propelled single forward speed, and folding handles, all these at only $569.99.
But if you require something more powerful, why don’t you go for the 250cc Two-Stage Snow Thrower with a 28-inch clearing path. This model is a bit expensive at $829, but this is actually already an affordable price compared to other top models from top brands. Craftsman offers around the same level of quality and assurance but at such a lower price. The machine is powered by a Briggs and Stratton Engine, two-stage auger/impellers, and 6 forward, 2 reverse speeds. This is also a fully featured machine great for use in heavy snow conditions, with its Glide Tech Polymer Skid shoes that protect your driveway, large 12-inch serrated augers, and a single-hand operation clutch lock for easy adjustments.
Craftsman also offers a steerable version of this model. It features the same specifications but includes a single lever joystick control and adjustable chute rotation for easier use. This, however, adds around a hundred bucks to the price of the previous model.
Most consumers also hail the Craftsman 88999, a solid two-stage gas snow machine that offers good value for its price. Priced at around $1,000, the machine has features that only the top and the highest models of other brands have, but all the features are offered at a cheaper price. The 88999 is great for deep snow and large driveways. It is also self-propped and comes with built-in headlights. It has a 28-inch clearing width, joystick chute control, independent wheel disengagement, and six forward and two reverse speeds. The machine is highly durable and has a long throw which makes it a great choice.
Pros: Craftsman snow throwers are widely and easily available at Sears; they are affordable and offer reliable performance.
Cons: Snow throwers from other brands may have more features.
The Verdict
Craftsman is the brand you can rely on for your snow blower needs at a budget. They offer good products at great prices.

Briggs & Stratton 24OHV burning oil?
Recently did a little work to it, replaced the pushrods and free'd a stuck valve. Now the engine occasionally backfires when not in drive, and goes through oil pretty fast. Would the valve being out of adjustment cause the oil consumption? We replaced the gaskets with all new ones.
The valves being out of adjustment will make it run badly but not make it use oil.
Does it smoke much?, oil will be burnt because of engine wear, worn/broken Piston Rings and valve guides and seals.
Or it is leaking oil from somewhere, maybe you broke a gasket when you rebuilt it.
Give the engine a thorough clean then run it up to see if you can spot a leak somewhere.
