Pipeline Natural Gas in North America

The North American continent is said to be heavily dependent on natural gas supplies. That is because the energy is really utilized and used by almost all working and useful industries in the region. Natural gas is used in residential centers, in industries and even in producing electricity through gas turbines. During winter, demand for natural gas is definitely higher because the gas is used to fuel central heating systems and other temperature regulating activities. That is why pipeline natural gas is also very significant in the region. Pipeline gas is indeed one of the most important products in the region.

It is just logical that pipeline natural gas facilities abound all across the continent. The United States and Canada have really high demand for pipeline gas. The Western portion of the United States and Canada are particularly having more pipeline natural gas facilities. That is because in such areas, winters are more freezing. Other than that, most natural gas fields are also concentrated within the areas.

There are just numerous pipeline natural gas facilities in North America. As a matter of fact, pipeline gas facilities in the North American region are even categorized into five groups. These categories are the major interstate pipelines, minor interstate pipelines, offshore pipelines, liquefied natural gas import/ export facilities and Canadian pipelines.

Interstate pipeline natural gas facilities are basically regulated by Canada’s National Energy Board and the United States’ Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Such interstate pipeline gas facilities are regulated and monitored by provincial, state and local jurisdictions. Such pipeline natural gas facilities are very useful and are heavily relied on when it comes to pipeline gas supplies.

There are 39 major interstate pipeline gas facilities in North America. On top of those, there are more than 99 minor interstate pipeline natural gas stations, 18 offshore pipeline gas centers that transport natural gas from other countries and seven LNG import/ export pipeline gas facilities. There are eight Canadian pipeline natural gas stations.

Canadian and US regulators all require major pipeline natural gas operations to put up and maintain online sites with useful and standard information over operations.
