Guide to Changing a Tire
Every driver must possess the basic skill to change tires. It will be helpful to get one back on the move very quickly. Here is how one can change tires. Follow the directions.
Tools Needed
- Jack
- Wheel lock key
- Wheel chocks or bricks
- Wheel nut wrench
- Rubber mallet
- Pry bar, tire iron or large screwdriver
- Protective work gloves
Directions
Step 1:
The car has to be parked on a level surface and the Parking Brake has to be engaged. The manual transmission cars should be placed in gear. Ensure that the car is not on the road. The engine has to be turned off and the hazard lights should be turned on. Open the car's hood as this will be an indication of a vehicle under repair for other drivers.
Step 2:
Place a big rock or Wheel Chock behind the tire for preventing the car from rolling. It must be done even when there is a slight incline. Take out the car jack, spare, lug nut and wrench.
Step 3:
The hubcap should be removed if needed.
Step 4:
The Lug Nuts which hold the wheel should be loosened before the car is jacked up. One end of the lug nut wrench should be placed over the lug nut. A hollow pipe having a length of about 2 feet should be used for leverage by slipping it over the end of the lug nut wrench. Now the wrench can be turned anti-clockwise for loosening the lug nut. It should be loosened in a pattern of a star, loosen the first with few turns and then loosen the opposite one. Work crosswise on the tire until all the nuts are slightly unscrewed.
Step 5:
Carefully raise the car on the jack and consult the car manual for more instructions. The car has to be jacked up a little more higher than needed so that there will be space available to remove the old tire and then putting on the new one.
Step 6:
The lug nuts have to be removed all the way and put them aside where they will not roll away. The flat tire will be hanging from the struts at this point.
Step 7:
Remove the flat tire now and place it aside.
Step 8:
Lift the new tire on to the wheel studs. In case there is any confusion regarding putting it in a correct way, then try to locate the valve from where the air is filled because it always points outwards.
Step 9:
Now the lug nuts should be replaced. Tighten them in the same way in which they were loosened. Turn each nut for few times and work in a pattern of a star around the wheel. Don't tighten the adjacent nuts consecutively.
Step 10:
Now when the tire has been put on, lower the jack slowly and then remove it.
Step 11:
The lug nuts can be tightened again, make sure that they are tightened firmly.
Step 12:
Now the hubcap can be put back on.
The new tire is on the wheel. Take the old tire to the auto store or repair shop as soon as possible, and have the lug nuts properly torque.
Tips & Precautions
- NEVER go under a vehicle that is supported by a jack. If intended, use an approved jack stand for supporting the vehicle.
- A hydraulic jack will make the car jack up easier.
- Be sure that you are aware where the wheel key lock is, it should be in the car. The places are the glove box and it can be attached to the jack handle.
- The method for changing tires can be practiced few times to get familiarized so one will be prepared in emergency cases.

Motor home is built on Ford E350. Rear Wheels are dual and lug nut in larger than 9/16' recommended by ford dealer
I'm only finding 14 mm studs, you may have to measure it, the wheel stud or the lug nut wrench size.. and then go to a big truck shop.. probably a 3/4"

Renew Your Ignition System
All gasoline powered engines require a spark to ignite the mixture of gasoline and air. This spark must take place at the right time and in the correct cylinder. This is accomplished by the ignition system.
There are essentially three types of ignition system used: the standard breaker point type ignition systems that were used in vehicle from the early 1900s to the mid 1970s; the electronic ignition systems; and the new distributor-less or wasted spark ignition system that was introduced in the mid 80s and is still used today.
All ignition systems employ four basic parts a battery to supply power for the system, a coil that is used to increase the voltage provided by the battery from 12 volts to about 30,000 volts, a distributor that directs the high voltage to the proper cylinder and a sparkplug that produces the spark that ignites the fuel mixture.
Point-type ignition system:
In this type of ignition system, the battery power is fed through a resistor to the primary side of the coil and is then grounded through the closed ignition points in the distributor. Causing the current to flow through the primary, windings and creating an intense magnetic field.
As the distributor cam turns, the points are opened interrupting the flow of current causing the magnetic field to collapse. The collapse of the magnetic field causes the lines of force to cut through the secondary windings. Since the ratio of turns in the secondary windings is higher than the primary, the voltage is increased to about 30,000 volts.
The distributor rotor acts as a selector switch directing the high voltage created by the coil to the sparkplug in the proper cylinder where the spark causes the fuel mixture to ignite.
One of the major problems with this system was the points. Due to the arcing created by the points opening and closing the points would become burned which rendered them useless after a while. Placing a condenser across the points would improve this condition but the points would still need to be replaced about every 10,000 miles.In addition to the points the contacts on the rotor and cap would also become burned and would also need replacing.
Electronic ignition systems:
In the 70s new emissions laws and the need for better reliability created a requirement for a higher mileage, reduced emissions ignition system with better reliability, which led to the development of the electronic ignition systems.
The major difference of the Electronic ignition system from the conventional ignition systems is the distributor components. Instead of a distributor cam, points, and condenser, the electronic ignition system has an armature, a pickup coil, and an electronic control module.
All electronic ignition systems operate basically identically current flows from the battery through the Ignition Switch to the coils primary windings. The primary current is turned on and off as the armature revolves past the pickup. As each tooth of the armature nears the pickup coil, it creates a signal to the electronic module to turn off the flow of current to primary side of the coil. A timing circuit in the module will turn the current on again after the coils magnetic field has collapsed which causes a high voltage in the secondary windings of the coil. The remainder of the system still functions the same as in a standard ignition system.
In the electronic ignition systems the problem with the points has been solved but the rotor and cap still need to be replaced periodically.
Distributor-less ignition systems:
The distributor-less ignition systems is not really distributor-less, but no longer has a mechanical distributor. It was replaced by an electronic switching system.
There are two types of distributor-less ignition systems, the true distributor-less ignition system and the wasted spark system.
The distributor-less ignition has a dedicated coil for every cylinder. The timing of the spark is controlled by an Ignition Control Unit (ICU) and the Engine Control Unit (ECU).
In the wasted spark system each cylinder is paired with the cylinder opposite it in the firing order. The ends of each coil secondary leads are attached to spark plugs for the paired opposites. These two plugs are on what is known as companion cylinders, cylinders which are at Top Dead Center (TDC) at the same time. But, they are paired opposites, because they are always at opposing ends of the 4 stroke engine cycle. When one is at TDC of the compression stroke, the other is at TDC of the exhaust stroke. When the coil discharges, both plugs fire at the same time.
The distributor-less ignition system has finally solved both of the reliability issues with the ignition system that has pledged automobile engines from the 1900s till the mid 80s. But there is still hope for the older vehicles; as there are a number of extremely good aftermarket conversion kits available on the market at affordable prices.

5 Horse Briggs & Stratton electronic ignition engine. I have no spark, what could it be?
5 horse electronic ignition Briggs & Stratton Engine. I can't get a spark, does anyone know what it could be?
unhook the kill wire and see if you get spark, if you dont then its a bad Ignition Coil.....if it does then your kill wire is grounding out, usually around the throttle linkage.......

is there any way I can make money from my old tires and rims in south carolina?
they are aftermarket rims/tires. ive got 1 cracked and the other 3 rims are fine, but 3 tires are either warped, punctured, or separated. I put money into them would like to get something back if possible. Any ideas as to how i can get any kind of money for recycling/ selling them for scrap/etc would be great.
Unless your rims happen to be particularly spectacular or rare, fixing them would probably cost you more than any money you could obtain for them. And as for tires, unless they have a great deal of tread life on them, the cost of disposing of them is usually more than they happen to be worth on any sort of side market.
If you want to know what the bulk iron or aluminum in your rims might fetch, your best bet would be to contact a local salvage or scrap metal firm. They usually have fixed pricing by weight. I'd say your maximum yield will be achieved by the option that requires the least amount of your time and effort.
