Tips To Use A Chainsaw Safely
The use of chainsaws is becoming more popular due to the resurgence of the wood heater and the drop in price of the base model chainsaws. There is a huge range of chainsaws on offer, so there is one for almost every need. However, what ever your requirements, there are certain safety requirements that should be followed, and necessary safety gear that should be used to prevent serious injury. I will go over a few safety procedures and list the equipment you need for safe use of your chainsaw.
Firstly, make sure that you chainsaw is regularly serviced and maintained by a professional. This is important to ensure that the chain is always sharp, motor performs up to requirements and the chain is always tight on the bar. A sloppy and blunt chain is potentially very dangerous.
All safety features must be functioning. For example, most chainsaws have a handle on top that acts as an emergency stop. Check that this operates as it should.
Before using the chainsaw, check the chain oil, the chain, and give it a general check over.
When using a chainsaw, make sure that someone else is aware where you are, and keeps checking on you, just in case you have an accident. Check the area where you are cutting and make sure all people and animals are clear of the area. Also ensure the wood you are cutting is not going to move. The wood must be secure before you make a cut, or it could become a projectile.
You need a range of safety equipment to protect yourself and prevent serious injury. You will need safety goggles to protect your eyes. Chainsaws have a habit of spraying chips all over the place, so protecting your eyes is paramount.
Protect your hands with gloves, as your hands are right on the front line, and can cop a hammering from Wood Chips.
Chaps are important to protect your legs not only from wood chips, but if you get Kevlar belted pants, you get some protection from a wayward chainsaw blade.
Another important piece of protective equipment are ear muffs. The amount of noise generated by chainsaws is extraordinary, and you may need to use the chainsaw for extended periods of time, which could result in temporary deafness and could potentially have long term implications for your hearing.
So, these are a few of the things you need to consider, and some of the safety equipment you need when using a chainsaw, to ensure you get the job done safely.

Reasons Why to Decorate Your Garden
When most people think about starting a garden, they do it more for a hobby instead of a profession. The reasons for starting this garden could be anywhere from having something to do/take care of, to having a place to relax on a nice day, to getting all the health benefits from a fruit and vegetable garden. So, since this is a hobby and a place to find peace and quiet why not make it look beautiful.
Starting a Garden
What is the first thing most people think of when planning a garden? Where is it going to be, what can you do to make it look good, what things can I add and how will it come together. Your main goal subconsciously is to have outdoor garden decorations by the end of it all. Most people accomplish this by getting outdoor fountains, garden decorative fencing, and the top-quality tools. These top- notch tools take care of the shrubs, flowers, and weeds that need to be kept up to have a garden. The fencing is used for keeping animals out, to keep fruits and vegetables, shrubs and plants under control. But the main goal, after all is to buy garden decorative items, to make your garden the prettiest on the block. This might include things like statues, outdoor fountains, a pond, the brightest flowers, and a pathway to walk on. By adding things like this you accomplish what you wanted to do and the bonus is it looks like a professional did it.
Now to get to the relaxing part, this is another key aspect to a garden. People also use gardens to get away from this crazy thing we call life. So, you might want to invest in a hammock, swing, or even a comfy table and chairs. This would be good to enjoy on a hot summer day.
Keeping a Garden up
It takes a lot to keep a garden tidy and up to par. Make sure you keep those bushes, flowers, and shrubs trimmed with your first-rate garden tools. You also need to make sure you are running your outdoor fountains correctly read over the instructions before you start it to figure out what to do because each one is different. Last is always making sure you keep your garden decorative and inviting. I mean it is the place to be with your family or friends.
What to Do With Your Garden
Once you have your garden all ready and just the way you want it. Show it off; be excited to show off your hard work. So, invite a few friends over and have a nice get together. When they ask you about your garden be specific with them and show them your tools and such that you used. Tell them where you got your statues and outdoor water fountains. And when they give you ideas take them to heart because you never know it could make your place of tranquility even more decorative. Last, is basking in your glory as long as you can and help out your friends if they decide that they want a new garden too.

What To Consider When Buying A Lawn Mower
Before buying your new lawn mower take some time to consider which kind of mower would be the best for you and your lawn. The following considerations will help you make a decision.
How big is your lawn?
If your lawn is small a push cylinder mower may be perfectly adequate and will give you a good finish and a smart lawn. For a bigger lawn you may want to consider an electric or petrol driven mower. If your lawn is much larger than the average then a ride-on mower would be more practical and easier on you.
How level is the lawn? Does it have banks and dips?
Where there are banks a Push Mower might not be sensible, and a ride-on mower would not be safe as it could tip over.
Do you require a tidy appearance, maybe with parallel stripes, or are you more concerned with the need to keep the grass neat and tidy?
What do you want to do about the grass clippings? Do you want a mower that gathers the trimmings in a box you need to empty or do you have the time to rake the clippings up once you have completed mowing the lawn. If you don't have time for raking you should consider a Mulching Mower that can chop up the grass trimmings well enough that you can leave them on the lawn so that they will speedily decompose and feed the lawn.
If you are considering a power mower make sure the lawn is small enough to reach all of it with an extension lead. If you plan to buy a petrol mower will all those who will be using it be able to start it without problems - many petrol engines can be tough to get going if they have a cord that needs to be pulled sharply.
Consider safety carefully. Lawn Mowers are dangerous to use so safety should take precedence. Look at features like power cut offs on electric mowers, how easy the mower is to overturn, how exposed are the blades.
Do you want a cylinder, mulching or rotary mower? Here are the main features of each:
Cylinder Mowers
These have a rotating cylinder with blades fixed to it in a spiral pattern and give the finest cut from any lawn mower. Confirm the mower has enough blades for your purpose - the more blades the better the lawn finish will be. Additionally check how wide the mower is, you will need to walk less with a wider mower but the downside is it will weigh more. Cylinder mowers can be manual push mowers or electrically or petrol driven. They often have a grass container to collect the clippings in addition to a roller to create stripes while you mow. These mowers are ideally suited to level lawns and shorter grass.
Rotary Mowers
Rotary mowers have a horizontal blade that revolves from the center of the mower. Because the spinning blade necessitates a Power Supply these mowers can't be purchased as manual push motors, but both petrol and electrical rotary mowers can be obtained. These mowers are more suited to uneven lawns and those with rougher grass than cylinder mowers. Although a rotary mower won't produce as fine a cut as a cylinder mower you can still get stripes by selecting a rotary mower with a rear roller.
Mulching Lawn Mowers
With a mulching mower you won't have to keep emptying a grass container, or having to rake the clippings from the lawn each time you cut it, and then get rid of the cut grass. They operate by recutting the cut grass into smaller and smaller pieces and then blowing them back onto the lawn. This requires more power than a conventional mower so these mowers will need a bigger engine. Some mulching mowers will also have a grass container if for some reason you need to store the trimmings instead.

I need advice on what type of lawn mower to buy?
Need to buy a lawn mower for my garden - medium size, but don't know which one. What is the difference between a rotary and a hover, and which one is better? What is the minimum power I should go for? Which are the best brands.? Many thanks.
I would recommend sticking with wheels, hover mowers are usually used on golf courses to keep the same height grass over mounds and hills, or when they don't want lines in the grass. Most people don't need them and they are heavy to carry around.
When I buy lawn mowers, I look for a few things. First, try adjusting the height. It shouldn't take much effort to change the mowing height. Next, try putting the Grass Catcher on and off; do this a few times. Make sure that it is simple and something you will be able to do easily with a full bag. I always check to make sure that the blade is not to much higher than the bottom of the deck. If it is, you will be dragging that deck through the lawn when you mow. You will also want at least 5 horse power. Finally, make sure it has Ball Bearing wheels, they roll better.
As far as brands go, it doesn't really matter as long as it is quality and meets the requirements above. I've had luck with Toro, tru-cut, Snapper (black hawk), Troy-Bilt, Murray, Lawn Boy, and sensation.
Engine brands are more important to me than the brand of the mower. Toro, Briggs & Stratton, and Kohler are my favorites. I've had lots of problems in the past with Tecumseh and Honda engines.
You can also spring for a self-Propelled Mower. They are nice if you are mowing a large area or skip a week of mowing while you are on vacation.

What should I plant this spring in my Outdoor Garden?
I'm in the 5A-6B plant hardiness zone of Canada. I have a garden on a slight incline about twelve feet wide and five feet deep. It is currently quite rocky, it appears gravel was added underneath canvass for drainage (I assume) and then dirt dumped over it. Should I dig all of this out and start over? There are some perennials, (rose bushes - very ugly) that I'd like to pull out, and hostas I planted last year. What type of shrubs, perennials and flowers would do well in this area? I am looking for easy care type stuff, but I like pretty flowers. I also prefer wild flowers or those that look wild. I do not like the rose bushes, they are very difficult to make look pretty and are quite thorny making access to the rest of the garden difficult as they are so overgrown. Any tips for the small hill garden would be appreciated as well.
You could make the area into a rock garden. Suggestions for plants: cranesbill, stonecress, bellflower, gentian, lantana, salvia, sedum, diasca, scilla, onamental onion, crocus, allium, fleabane, phlox, violas, and herbs. Incorporate a few large rocks or use smaller ones as an edging. Removing the roses sounds like a good idea if you don't like them. Plant something that will make you smile every time you see it. Starting a Butterfly Garden
For your butterfly garden design there are endless possibilities to discover. A few suggestions can already help you to get started with it. The idea behind these suggestions is getting the creative process activated and get you started on your way to create a lovely butterfly garden.
Just, before you start go and get some ideas about which species of butterflies are lingering around in your area. Explore your location while taking a hike around, probably with a butterfly identification book in your hands. Although it takes some time as well as effort you will treasure the final result. After you have detected the species of butterflies prepare a list. Also make notes about what these specific species of butterflies use for nectar and food plants.
Make sure that your garden is located in a way that provides six hours of sunlight a day as a minimum. Butterflies like it more hwere they are warm and sheltered, as they are coldblooded creatures.
As wind is the butterflies worst enemy, consider plenty of wind protection in your butterfly garden design as well. Tall shrubs or other plants arranged in a way to create a wind break will protect them and give them shelter. Although a location that avoids heavy winds is even better.
Most desirable the butterfly garden would be located on the sunny side of the home with windbreaks on west and east sides or wherever the dominating winds come from in your area. To be able to view the butterflies lingering in your garden from indoors, try to locate it close to a window. Consider to provide some seating outside as well.
In addition and if possible, you can excavate an area in your garden and build a stone wall around it which could make a ideal shelterbelt for your butterflies. To prevent walking in mud also think of gravel or crushed rock pathways around your garden.
You will discover a lot more creative ideas for designing your butterfly garden. Just take your time to design a garden that you will enjoy and be proud of.

I take it you are referring to a Buddleia. Well, they can be pruned quite severely every few years. Cut it back before the wind does.
