How can I fix my Gas Grill?

I have a Charbroil Gas Grill. Last year I always had to turn on the gas and use a match to light it, the ignitor didn't work but other than that it's been a good grill. Went to use it and it wouldn't light. I thought it was out of gas and got a refill, even though the canister didn't fill empty. It still won't work. Obviously seems something is blocking gas from flowing to the grill. Don't know much about grills and their parts but it's a nice, really large grill so I hate to toss it if this is something that is easy to fix. Any suggestions what to check?

Make sure all the connections are tight leading from the gas canister to the flame.
The ports might be clogged - try using a unbent toothpick to push the crud out of the little holes. I noticed once that it was rusting from the inside, clogging every hole over the winter. If that doesn't work, you might need to replace the whole thing. These are available at bigger warehouses like Lowes or Home Depot.

Lets face it the price of gas is still rising and there is very little chance that it will ever fall back down to what it was. In fact the experts are predicting that it is going to get a lot worse, and this is sending many drivers into a frenzy trying to find ways to improve gas mileage and squeeze every last drop of gas out of their cars to get more MPG.

So just what can we do to get more MPG from our cars? Just a quick look on the internet will turn up hundreds of so called “gas mileage devices” that promise to get more MPG from your engine. Now I’m not saying that all these gas mileage devices are scams, but a lot of them sound pretty far fetched. With this in mind I have done some research and come up with ten ways to improve gas mileage using tips that most experts agree actually work.

1) This one is so obvious that it often gets overlooked. Make sure that your gas cap is in Good Condition and that the seal is not worn or broken. A loose or poor fitting gas cap will allow gas vapour to leak out, wasting precious fuel. As much as 17 gallons of gas a year can be lost due to a faulty gas cap. Also if and when you do replace it make sure you get a locking one as the rise in gas prices increases the rise in gas theft.
2) Stick with the right type of gas for your particular vehicle by using the correct octane rating that is recommended for it. A higher octane rated fuel such as premium will have little benefit for an engine designed to run on regular gas.
3) Don’t let your engine idle for long periods. An engine that idles for 15 minutes can waste up to a gallon of gas.
4) Drive at a reasonable speed. The faster you drive the less fuel efficient your engine is, keeping your speed down is one of the best ways to improve gas mileage.
5) Make sure that your Air Filter is cleaned regularly. A clogged air filter will drastically reduce your fuel efficiency, so check it on a regular basis, especially if you drive on dirt roads where it will clog up quicker.
6) Don’t forget your other filters. Routinely check your Fuel Filter and the PCU valve and breather filter. Replacing these can improve gas mileage by up to 15%
7) Get a mechanic to check your oxygen sensors. A faulty oxygen sensor can send more gas to the engine than it really needs to run efficiently.
8) Don’t be a jack-rabbit driver. Always accelerate and break slowly (except in an emergency obviously). Fast accelerating and aggressive breaking will also reduce your fuel economy.
9) Keep your tires in good condition and check pressures regularly. A flat tire is a drag and will cost you gas.
10) Try to keep your weight down. All that junk you carry around in your trunk (the stuff you never use) is just adding to your gas bill.

These are just 10 simple ways to improve gas mileage and get more MPG for your car. There are many more and most of them are just common sense, so even if you don’t invest in one of the new gas mileage devices on sale you can still make some savings and get more MPG for your car.

What kind of a cap could work for a Weed Eater Gas Tank?

I have lost the gas cap (little black twist on) to my Featherlite Weed Eater. Is there a household cap or simple machine cap I can use? I tried a 2-liter bottle cap, and a water bottle cap. Both we just a bit too small. I can order one for about $10 online. I don't know if hardware stores carry them or not. Any ideas?

Grilling fans were recently surveyed for the top things they hate about grilling and they came up with a few, specifically uncontrollable flare-ups, grills that fall apart after a couple of seasons, and burnt food.

When your burger is burnt, most folks assume it's the chef's fault when in fact its really that cheap grill that caused it. It's a fact that not all grills cook equally. The design and construction of a Gas Grill is a primary factor in how well it cooks. Choosing the right grill can mean the difference between eating juicy steaks or charred cheeseburgers.

To ensure that you buy the right gas grill for your needs, try to follow these basic steps:

1. Wiggle it

This means just grab that baby by the sides and shake. If it doesn't feel sturdy at the store, you can bet it's going to fall apart in your backyard. Look for carts that are welded together, not fastened together.

If it relies on fasteners and screws to be put together, the less durable it will be. Solid steel construction is the key. Check the thickness of the metals. For Stainless Steel on a hood or trim pieces, you'll want thicker gauge that will be long wearing. Look for 304-grade at the least.

Check how sturdy the wheels and casters are. This is where manufacturers usually go for the cheaper parts. Wheels should be designed to survive extreme hot and cold temperatures so they don't crack or break.

2. See What Is Inside

Lift up the hood. Most shoppers just do this and figure if its heavy, it must be ok. But that's like judging a car on the weight of the hood! Check what's inside to really judge how it will perform.

Avoid nickel or chrome-plated steel because they can rust. Look for porcelain-enameled cast-iron Cooking Grates or stainless steel.

Check the distance between the handle and the hood to make sure you will not be burned as you open and close it. Look for a heat and weather-resistant material like stainless steel or glass-reinforced nylon which dissipate the heat.

If you are buying a gas grill with a stainless steel hood make sure it's double-walled. Double-walled hoods create an insulated air space protecting the outer finish from discoloration.

3. Take Out The Grates and Look Underneath

All grills have a system for dispersing heat from the burners while making sure grease and food drippings are channeled away from the burners. Many grills use lava rocks or ceramic briquettes. But beware, drippings can accumulate on these surfaces until they reach a flash point and flare-up. The best design is an inverted v-shaped metal bar that rests on top of the burners to vaporize drippings.

Check how the system handles grease. If they are not correctly channeled away from the burners, then you might have a potential grease fire on your hands. A high-capacity catch pan to catch the drippings is important. The pan has to be deeper than a cookie sheet, otherwise, gunk will end up on your patio. It's also an advantage if you can have access to the pan without turning your grill around.

4. Take Out the Steel Bars

Time to check the burners under the steel bars. Lower priced grills will have only one burner or burners shaped like an H, a U, or a circle. Designs like these create uneven hot and cold spots when you grill. This is the main reason why steaks or burgers might be overcooked on one side while still rare on the other side. Burner tubes on better grills, are independently controlled and run the length of the cook box to provide evenly dispersed heat.

The best grills have at least two or more separately controlled burners, not just control knobs. These separate controls give you more flexibility in choosing to grill by direct or indirect method. Also, check if the burners are spaced to provide even heat across the entire Cooking Grate.

5. Think About Who Made This Grill

Make sure that the manufacturer is a reputable brand. Ask yourself if the company will be around when you need grilling advice, assistance, or Spare Parts for the next few years. Check if the grill is actually made by the company on the nameplate, you might think it's a quality product only to discover it's a cheap,

re-branded import.

Lastly, verify online reviews and ask your friends, neighbors and family! If they are happy with the product, odds are you will be too.

I am currently running a Honda 5000 while we're without power. I'm just wondering -- does it make a different if I run 1000 watts of power from it or 5000 watts? Will I use less fuel if I hook up a smaller amount to it?

More power out will require more fuel going in. As the load increases the engine will consume more gasoline.
Efficiency is another issue. With no load attached, output power is 0 watts. Efficiency will be 0%. As the load increases fuel consumption will increase, but efficiency will be higher. Often maximum efficiency will occur at full rated power, even if this is the highest consumption point.
