How to Store Your Gas Grill: The ABCs
A few lucky folks live in climates where they can use their Gas Grills year-round, but if the approach of winter weather indicates the end of coooking out this year for you, it's time to consider how to store your grill.
A top quality gas grill is a treasure to use but can be something of an investment. If you need to be sure you get the most out of your investment, you're going to need to give that grill a bit of particular care. But as with most things, if you go step-by-step, you'll be finished before you know it.
A Is for Assemble
Assemble your supplies. You'll have to have warm, soapy water, a brass bristle brush, a soft piece of cloth, a towel, a few toothpicks and sandpaper, and your owner'smanual . You'll need about an hour or so for the job. Now, go to...
B Is for Briquettes
Actually B is for briquettes and grilling grids. Briquettes and cooking grids get very greasy with use, and you certainly shouldn't store greasy equipment. (Yuck.) Turn the briquettes over so the greasy side is up facing toward the burner. With the grilling grids in their normal place, turn on the grill and close up the lid. Set the flame on "high" and let everything sit for 15 minutes while the warmth burns the grease on the briquettes and the grids.
Once it all has cooled off, remove the briquettes and grids and use the brush and the soapy water to wash off any leftover grease. Rinse, dry, and set them aside so you can move on to the next step.
C Is for Clogs
You now need to clean the burner and tubes due to the fact that if they are (or get) clogged with food drippings, they can shortout the igniter flame. (And you seriously don't want to shortout your igniter flame.) When the grill is in storage, spiders and bugs at times move into the gas tubes (aka venturi tubes). Between grease and wildlife, your grill could become difficult to start and/or have an uneven flame the next time you try to use it, so be positive all of the elements are clean.
Turn off the gas at the tank if you haven't already. Following your owner's manual, unfasten the burner, slip the gas tubes off of the gas lines, and remove the whole unit. Use the soft rag and soapy water to wash it. Be as detailed as you can and try not to miss any build up of dirt or grease behind. Dry everything and use the toothpicks to unclog and clean the gas ports. Clean the gas tubes with the soapy water, as well, and set every thing aside.
D Is for Damage
Damage that you are going to try to decrease the chance of, that is. Before you start cleaning the grill, which could help you prevent grease buildup and catch any corrosion before it develops, cover the gas orifices with aluminum to prevent water from getting in. Use the brush and water to wash the grill housing both inside and out. Rinse the housing, towel dry, and clear away the foil you put on.
Now is the time to check out your grill's paint for any chips or damage . A lot of grills won't rust, but if the paint is chipped, dampness can get in and weaken them. So when the grill has cooled and dried it's the time to stop this by sanding any damaged areas you find until you have revealed a white, shiny patch. Then utilizing a primer and some "high-heat" paint, touch-up the sanded parts.
E Is for Everything
Put everything -- burner, gas tubes, igniter -- back together.
F Is for Fuel
Check your fuel supply to be confident your propane tanks are not dented or rusted. If they are, you should replace them immediately.
G Is for Goodnight, Grill
Exactly where are you going to "put your grill to bed"? A fixed outside grill, of course, must remain in the place where it is, and you can keep the Propane Tank in its usual location and connected. You will want to put a protecting cover over the grill. If you store your grill indoors in the winter season, you need to disconnect the propane tank and leave it upright outside.
Verify your handbook on the right way to disconnect your tank. Tape plastic over the Gas Line openings of the grill to keep bugs out and keep the tank in a cool, shady place away from furnace and clothes dryer vents and children's and pets' play areas. Never keep the container in an enclosed room such as your house, cellar, or garage.
H Is for Happy
Which is what you'll be in the spring when you all of a sudden get the urge to begin grilling and your gas Grill Set to go.

The Weber Portable Gas Grill Q 100: a First-Hand Review
My husband and I are great fans of grilling. When we were living in a house we used to use our charcoal barbecue every week but recently we have moved to an apartment and, since we don't have a backyard anymore (but a small terrace), we had to come up with a solution for the grilling.
So, I started my research for an alternative to my old Charcoal Grill. I found online some great reviews for the Weber Q 100 Portable Gas Grill and decided to give it a try. My final decision to take the plunge was encouraged by the recommendation made by a friend of ours who is a great fan of grilling as well (and considers himself an expert on the subject).
I had my doubts whether my food was going to be as tasty as the one grilled on charcoal but, as it turned out to be, my concerns were out of place.

First of all it's very well made and sturdy. The grill has a heavy Cast Iron grate unlike some cheaper grills you can find on the market, that have thin grates. The grill surface is not that big but it's enough for a family of four.
The grill heats up wonderfully and the heat is even.
Every food we have made on the grill tasted great and you get a nice sear after some 6-8 minutes of preheat (I just love the grill marks on the steaks).
The food gets done quite quickly so beware if you don't pay attention it can get dried out. Definitely get a stop watch and you'll be doing just fine.
I was a little concerned about the gas tanks that this grill operates on (I never used one in my life) but it's really a no-brainer. The grill works on a standard 14.1 or 16.4 ounce propane cylinders. I hooked my grill up to a 5 lb Propane Tank (and it lasted for quite a while), but I have read that some people use larger gas tanks with an adapter hose.
The grill is so much easier to operate than a charcoal grill. It ignites at the push of a button and has an adjustable burner valve with a regulator so you can control the heat.
Since I hate cleaning my grills, I found it to be very helpful (and later read the same thing from other grill users) to use aluminum foil on the inside of the grill. So I clean the grill in no time. Furthermore you can use a foil tray for the drip pan as well.
I use another trick that saves me some cleanup: I brush the grill or the meat with oil so the food doesn't stick so much.
I found the book you get with the grill to be most helpful. It had some great instructions and tips, especially the grilling time charts.
Since I'm using this grill so much (a couple of time per week) I bought the folding cart for this model too. It's such a great accessory to the grill. I recommend you get a Grill Brush as well.

I have to say I'm absolutely enthusiastic about this grill. It's really worth every penny I paid (the price is not that high though). I forgot my old charcoal grill. The Weber Q 100 is so much easier to use. You can prepare your food in no time and, what's important to me, you don't have to have a backyard at your disposal. Of course if you are planning a barbecue party then you should get a larger one. The Q 100 is ideal for a family of four (like mine) or if you're single, and if you don't have a couple of hours to grill. Most of the times, when I get from work, I just light my grill and have a great meal in 20 minutes. I found this to be a priceless commodity.
Here is another little tip: try to always keep the Burner Ring grease free or it won't light well. The Weber Portable Gas Grill Q 100 is one of the most popular Gas Grills on the market (actually it's the most sold gas grill on Amazon.com).

Stainless Steel Gas Grill Burners
The cast brass and cast stainless steel burners have the smallest burrs -- by far. This will mean less chaos in the gas flow, fewer trapped particulate matter in the burner and a cleaner burning grill. The following comparison shows how the ports are formed.
Why is port formation important? Several reasons. If the hole is punched into a sheet metal burner, it leaves a large tab inside the burner that will cause more chaos while burning. It is more apt to hold trapped food particles and grease, and is therefore more likely to burn through. (Note the Alfresco burner photo below.)
Molded ports in cast burners seem like they would be a good idea, but there is considerable difficulty in making them uniform. Thus, it is quicker and less expensive to drill.
Drilled ports are the most uniform and the most precisely placed. They tend to leave a burr on the inside of the burner, which is more noticeable (oddly enough) in a sheet metal burner. Cast burners tend to have smaller burrs.
Fire Magic Grill Burner has drilled orifices
Notice (from the photo on our site) the lack of extensive burring, allowing for a smooth flow of gas. Cast stainless leaves few, if any, burrs when drilled. This burner has a lifetime warranty, including against rust and burn-through.
Notice the placement of the ports: on the side, safely below the ridge. This placement will help prevent grease from dripping into the burner, minimizing the possibility of grease entering the burner.
Lynx grill burner is drilled
Notice (from the picture on our site) the lack of extensive burring, allowing for a smooth flow of gas. Cast brass is similar to cast stainless steel when drilled, leaving few, if any, burrs. This burner carries a lifetime warranty, including against rust and burn-through. It is also interesting to note that Lynx does not offer a replacement burner for any of their grills: simply, you'll never need one.
Orifice placement is not as good with this burner as with the Fire Magic, but when you consider that you'll never replace this burner, it probably doesn't matter all that much.
Alfresco grill burner has punched orifices
Punched ports like these create substantial ledges where carbon particles and moisture can collect and foster burn-through. This burner has a limited lifetime warranty that only covers manufacturer's defect. With this design, this burner *will* burn through, and faster than most other burners on the market.
Further, notice the placement of the ports: at 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock; if any grease were to drip onto this burner, it is almost guaranteed to enter these ports, thereby compounding the rust and burn-through issue.
Dcs Grill burner has drilled orifices
At least DCS drills burner ports. The burrs, however, are substantial when compared to cast stainless steel, and these will also collect particulates and moisture, which will foster burn-through. This burner also has a limited lifetime warranty that covers manufacturer's defects only, not rust or burn-through.
This burner has a thicker steel than the Alfresco, but it also has a serious design flaw: the ports are drilled directly on top. If grease were to drip on this burner, it is guaranteed to enter the burner, compounding the rust and burn-through issue!

What kind of grates are better on the grill, stainless steel or porcelain ?
There are 2 grills that I am thinking of buying, but one has porcelain enamel grates, and the other has stainless steel grates. Which one is a better buy not concerning the brand of grill ?
Porcelain Coated Cast Iron will give you better heat transfer into what your cooking. As with cast Iron skillets it will heat up more evenly and maintain the heat better than stainless.
Stainless Steel Frying Pans that are made for home use will have Aluminum bonded to the bottom for even heat transfer. Stainless steel pans with out the aluminum are designed to be used on higher BTU burners in commercial stoves, and don't cook properly on standard house stoves.
For high heat cooking like hamburgers, steaks etc, it is really 6 of one, half dozen of the other (they are the same).
For low heat 225 - 250 deg. for Briskets, Turkeys, Chickens, Roasts etc, the Porcelain will be much better. It will absorb the heat and distribute it evenly in the meat.
If it is a gas or Propane Grill be sure you have Wood Chips to add that true bbq flavor to the food.
Whichever one you decide to purchase, I'm sure you will enjoy the food you cook on it. I use mine year round.

Simplifying Things with Garden Leaf Blowers
Garden leaf blowers are powered generally either by gas or electric. Our article below will guide you to make the best choice of Leaf Blower for your portability needs, and garden size.
Gas Leaf Blowers
These are more powerful (and noisier) than electric ones, and with a reach beyond the limits of an extension cord. Two-cycle engines require a mix of gas and oil. Gas Powered leaf blowers are excellent where mobility and greater work output is required, but are unfortunately heavier than the electric models.
Hand Held leaf blowers - Useful only for small to medium yards where you need the power of a Gas Engine.. They can get heavy however after using for a while. Convenience and portability have their own price if you have backache! The bigger models can also vibrate a bit at top speed, so check the weight and balance.
Look for air speeds higher than 150 mph and noise levels less than 70 decibels. (Make sure to check your local ordinances: as some areas limit noise to less than 65 decibels.)
Backpack leaf blowers - these are best for driveways and bigger yards. Be sure to look out for an antivibration system and noise-squelching muffler to make carrying the engine bearable for long periods of time. The blower fits in a harness worn on the operator's back.
Walk Behind leaf blowers - these are better for large yards or big areas. I would look for a four Cycle Engine to give you more power and less emissions, and also a three wheeler if possible to make for easier steering. Walk behind leaf blowers cover the most acreage in the least time. These gas powered machines are normally the tool of choice for commercial users, but for regular homeowners, they can make short work of a home lawn.They will however be more expensive too! Vacuum units also use a hose for picking up debris and leaves.
Electric Leaf Blowers
These are less powerful than gas, but have the advantage of being lighter, with less vibration and quieter (you still need some protection for your hearing) - and there are no exhaust fumes! as electricity drives the fan. The attached cord however, limits your mobility so this may not be the best choice for a lawn with lots of trees!. Look too, for a cord retention system to prevent the cord from being accidentally unplugged when being used. Also when selecting an extension cord to use with your Electric Leaf Blower, remember that if the gauge used is too small or inadequate, the motor will not perform particularly well. Match the power rating of the tool to a compatible cord, and always buy a cord that is rated for outdoor use. Be Safe!
Handheld leaf blowers - these are best for smaller gardens, patios and walkways. Be on the lookout for one with a flexible blower tube to allow you to reach into corners!
Combo leaf blower/vacuum - a great idea for small to medium gardens where you've not much room to pile your leaves. I would look out for one with a Variable Speed and mulcher built-in to the blower to help cut the leaf volume.
Rechargeable/battery-operated leaf blowers - are a good alternative for small areas. Work well on solid surfaces like driveways and garages, but are limited because of their short run time and because they move less air than the larger corded models.

How to brighten a Gas Tank?
Its a gas tank off a 13 or 14 year old Backpack Blower. The gas tank is brown faded looking. I was wondering if there was a way to brighten it up without having to go buy another gas tank, since there is nothing wrong with this one except is faded. Thanks
Light green as new leaf with orange strip, looks so bright. Just slowly clean by using smooth wet sandpaper to keep the material, and only clean the paint, do prime paint and follow by main paint, finish by clear coat. It's fine to use a cheap or regular paint, but use a good clear coat to cover the regular paint and make it look do with good paint.
