Most people, myself included, thought all you need to power wash something was high Water Pressure and maybe a little heat (as in warm water). But there are several more elements that determine the effectiveness of your power washing jobs. The basic three ingredients to pressure washing is water (both in its presence and temperature), pressure, and detergent or chemicals. Combined, these three elements can create a pretty significant environment for optimal cleaning. However, remove or decrease one just enough and the entire environment changes.
Almost everyone is familiar with the relationship between oil and water right? Which is precisely why simply firing up your Pressure Washer and blasting the driveway with hot water isn't necessarily going to get it as clean as you'd think it would. You need to have a detergent that is going to break down the grease and oil, not just water.
The same applies for any surface you're trying to get clean with a Power Washer. Most commonly used on decks and fences, these washers are known for making wood look as good as new. However, what many don't realize is that even though it may look good immediately after spraying, the mildew and mold they think is gone is only going to come back a short time later. In order to really clean a fence and/or deck, you must use something that will effectively kill the mildew. The best thing for this is oxygen bleach.
Oxygen bleach comes in powdered form and should be mixed with water and possibly a powered all purpose home cleanser or soap as well. Generally 1/4 to 1/3 cup of oxygen bleach to gallon of water should be fine for killing mildew and mold on fencing. As with any pressure washing job, you'll want to start in an area not in plain view as to get a feeling for how the cleaning will affect the overall look of the wood. As with any wood also, you want to make sure you're using the right tip. To be safe, don't use anything less than a 30 degree tip when power washing wood surface. Something like a 15 degree tip used for concrete will be too direct and may splinter or ruin the wood.
Whether you're pressure washing your deck or vehicle, the same three elements come into play in helping you effectively clean with your power washer. Remember that using the correct pressure washer detergent is important to successfully killing such things as mildew or cutting through tough stains like grease and oil.

An all-powerful pressure washer typically sprays water at high pressures to clean large surfaces such as buildings, patios, sidewalks, farm equipment and roadways. Nothing says fun more than shooting dirt and debris off something with a power pressure washer. Your standard Power Washer is equipped with a High Pressure pump and reservoir, spray hose and nozzle, and an electrical cord. You simply fill the reservoir and use a water hose to connect it to the water supply. Next plug in the power washer and you are totally ready to commence power cleaning.
The small electrical units has a nozzle pressure of over 1400 PSI, which is an astounding amount of pressure. A word of caution, please be careful as this much pressure can really hurt you so keep your spraying confined to inanimate surfaces only. Speaking of pressure, make sure you have the correct unit for the job. For instance, if too much pressure is used, you can take the paint off virtually any surface instead of just cleaning. However, if the intention is to clean and get rid of old paint off surfaces such as porches or decking, than a High Power washer is the way to go. However, the golden rule to adopt is to test a tiny unnoticeable area before going for it all.
Okay, now that the preventive subject matters are conveyed, what else can be cleansed with a power washer? Well, another application is cleaning the aluminum siding on your house, which is very convenient when no maintenance to the outside of your house has not been done for quite some time. Or how about cleaning the driveway, just start up that power pressure washer and away the dirt, stones, and anything else standing in the way of a clean drive.
In any case, power Pressure Washers can be simple and fun to clean many types of large surfaces, particularly when used in a safe manner. So if you have a a couple of overdue big cleanup projects waiting to be completed, look forward to a faster completion time with less effort by buying or renting a power washer.

power washer on low pressure taps?
Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone knows if a pressure washer will work at all well running from a tap with low pressure? Using a hose on the taps to wash my car has driving my crazy! I can get a fine spray but thats about it!

A pressure washer has a built in pump to up the pressure. To do this, you have to have enough water volume to the pump for it to do it's job.
I have a cabin where there is low pressure/volume. I use a pressure washer there, and it seems ok. About all you can do is try it.

What is a pressure washer?
A pressure washer is used to generate High Pressure water that can remove mold, dust, mud, grime, and dirt from many different services. The mechanical device is usually Gas Powered, although there are the smaller electrical powered ones.
A pressure washer can be used on buildings, concrete, as well as vehicles to clean and restore the objects back to their original state. If you are not using the pressure washer for commercial purposes and will only need it for a small or one time project, you can rent the equipment for a small fee.
The pressure washer can produce pressure up to 5000 PSI and in some cases even more.
When you purchase or rent your pressure washer, it should come equipped with:
- A High Pressure Hose (lengths vary)
- A Trigger Gun
- A Motor to Drive the Water Pump
When you are ready to begin using your pressure washer, the first thing to consider is the water source. You have to ensure that the water source is adequate to feed the pressure washer a constant supply of water. The flow of water source must be equal or superior to the flow that the machine demands.
If water is not given in a constant flow to the device, the pressure washer will malfunction and the motor could burn up, causing irreversible damage.
There are several different nozzles available for attachment to the pressure washer. Each nozzle offers a use for a particular job and will allow a different stream of pressurized water to come through. The nozzles vary from a pencil thin line sized stream of water to a triangular sized larger stream. The majority of nozzles available will attach directly to the trigger gun.
Deep Cleaning with your Pressure Washer
If you are working on a project that requires a little more elbow grease, the use of a nozzle allowing detergent to be incorporated in to the water flow may be the best solution. You can choose from two different types of chemical injectors, a low-pressure and a high-pressure injector.
You should be aware that a pressure washer can be a very dangerous tool if not operated carefully. You should read the safety instructions that will be supplied with the machine before attempting to operate it. The powerful jet of pressurized water coming from the nozzle can rip the flesh right off of a bone.
You should also be aware that when using the pressure washer to clean surfaces such as concrete, the foundation can be broken up and small and even large objects be thrown in to the air with great speed. You should understand that using a pressure washer on asphalt can lead to breaks and crumbling if the water is being directly aimed at a crack or void in the surface.
When you are looking to purchase or rent a pressure washer be aware of the job at hand and determine which may be best for your project. You can find electrical and gas powered units and the pressure will vary. There are some gas Powered Pressure washers that will produce hot water, making them ideal for cleaning grease or oil stains. You should never use a gas Powered Pressure Washer indoors, due to the fumes from the exhaust.

It runs fine until you turn the pressure on, and then it dies. Run fine when I start it I hook up water still running fine I pull trigger it dies 6 mo old Please help
I do hook up water b 4 start just wanted to explain runs fine till I pull trigger then stops abruptly
on Pressure Washers always have the water hooked up and on before starting engine.turn on the Spray Nozzle to eliminate a hard start.then it could be a bad pump ,a clogged hose or nozzle,or a worn out engine.if it dies quickly i'd bet on the pump trying to lock -up.hope this helps.

Okay, we’re all familiar with the incredible photographic decals and transfers that set our hotrods alight. Roaring flames shoot across the body of the car, and the effects are amazing, right? Sure. But what did they do in the old days, pre the manufacturing of adhesive colour images? Well, it was all done by the magic of paint! Anyone who has seen a real flame paint job on a hotrod will have to agree the results are awesome and really add an individual identity to a car. Hot rods are meant to be hot, and flaming decorative techniques really make them swelter. But how do they do it, and if you want to buy a hot rod, how feasible is it have such a work of art on your car?

It’s almost a given that those who buy hot rods will want to adapt them to some degree to reflect their personalities, not to mention the essences of the cars themselves. Hot Rods aren’t by any means your Average Joe vehicles. They’re head-turners, they’re ‘on fire’! There’s a whole image thing with hot rods that is synonymous with a little bit of danger, a bit of hard man iconry. And how better to reflect the slightly risqué and rebellious aspect of your hot rod car and your persona than by having flames caressing your favourite beast’s bodywork.
The range of ready-to-go decals and transfers these days is hugely extensive, with many of them using photo-representation which can produce very realistic results. And while these effects can really make a car ‘pop’ there’s nothing quite so awe-inspiring as a genuine flame paint job.
The process of flaming, depending on how detailed a flame effect is required can be quite a laborious one. It requires many separate stages of masking out the flame shapes and, even in the case of the most simple looking artwork, repeated layers of paint need to sprayed onto the body. People who buy hot rods, for the most part are buying dreams, they’re buying an extension of the powerful inner aspects of themselves, something that flies in the face of all that is humdrum and run-of-the mill in the world. So it stands to reason that they want their hotrod to be as hot as it can be.
No true masterpiece comes cheap, and a good quality flame paintwork job by a renowned hot rod paint artist is something you might have to save up for. It is after all his skill you are paying for and there’s no question that a truly professional paintjob makes a big difference. But don’t sell your home and your cats yet, you can have such pieces done in stages without them looking out of place or unfinished. Think of your hotrod as a work of art in progress. Rome and all that…? The best things take time.

Different power setting of Water jet Pressure Washer serves different purposes
It is such a faster way when using High Pressure washer for spring cleaning of your house annually. You can use the same washer to clean up your patio, driveway, car park area, flooring, roofing and deck. The tool itself may be helpful but it all depends on how it been used and which type of pressure power you choose. Some High Pressure Washer may not suitable for home use simply because its pressure too high which can spoilt the surfaces you are trying to clean.
The knowledge of getting the right specification of the pressure washer is very important in house cleaning. Choosing the right machine for the right task is not benefiting you to get the job done well, but it also save your money in buying the machine. However one must learn the basic understanding of PSI and GPM which are the standard measurement of high pressure washer. The PSI refers to pounds per square inch of Water Pressure and GPM is measured as gallon per minute of water flow. These two measurements are very important in helping you to differentiate the performance of the high pressure washer and find the right one.
Basically there are 3 major categories of high pressure washer, they are light weight usage, medium usage and heavy usage classes of Pressure Washers.
Light weight usage machines usually range from 1,200 to 1,900 PSI and they are sufficiently competent with smaller tasks like cleaning patio furniture, vehicles, etc. Cleaning area covered spans about 10 to 35 sq feet in about 10 minutes depending on the PSI you used.
The medium usage machines range around 1,950 to 2,600 PSI, made to manage medium sized cleaning tasks like stairs, footpaths, driveways and sidings. Cleaning area covered spans 40 to 90 square feet in 10 minutes, and they are made for occasional to frequent cleaning activities.
The heavy usage machines are mainly for made for commercial and Heavy Duty home cleaning. Key areas that require the powers of such machines include food processing factories and office buildings. For the home, they are used for paint preparation, cleaning for second story external sidings etc. The super cleaners are capable of covering 90 to 190 square feet in 10 minutes. They are made for long term and frequent usage.
Choosing the right Power Pressure washers is not a difficult task if you simply follow the guide when searching for a suitable one for your cleaning needs. Have fun.
