Repairing Scooters - Ways To Keep Your Scooter Alive
Scooter owners will find their scooters indispensable, as they know the advantages of mobility that they enjoy. Hence, they also know the dire consequences of a scooter breakdown or damage and the need to repair it at the earliest. Repairing scooters may sound simple but there are various aspects that are included in the process.
Reforming and Rebuilding
If your scooter looks old and dilapidated and can be made good by just touching up the paint or make minor restorations then you need to take it to the repairer. However, depending on the amount of work that it requires you may even choose to do the little work yourself. Repairing scooters could also entail work on the engine. It could range from servicing the engine to painting or even replacing it. Care needs to be taken that the replaced engine should be one that is best suited for your scooter. Other areas that may need your attention in the form of cleaning, servicing and repairing could be the suspension with its brakes, shocks, tires and tubes; the framework which includes the speedometer, locks, bearings, battery, exhaust, lights, cables, etc.; and the fuel system with its gasket, valve, Fuel Line and tank.
Replacing
During the repairing process you may be looking at the replacement of various parts like o-rings, cruciform, condenser, gaskets, piston, rings, seals, bearings, coil, points, brake shoes, carburetor, stator, etc. You may choose to replace these parts on your own or may even rely on a professional for this. Whichever the case, you need to ensure that there is proper compatibility between the part replaced and the scooter. The person replacing these parts or repairing scooters should be extremely alert in order to undertake proper inspection, as he may notice that another part also needs attention. It should also be kept in mind that prior to the replacement process that peripheral area needs to be cleaned.
Other Repairs
Weak lights may mean that the magneto of your scooter needs to be worked upon. Again some attention may need to be paid to the tank too. Repairing that tank is essential, as gasoline that has settled in the tank may lead to grime, odor or corrosion. Depending on the condition of the Gas Tank it may need a thorough cleaning and a fresh coat or may be treated with acid. The fuel valve may also be replaced in this process. Besides, while repairing scooters you may also have to pay heed to the cable and the cylinder.
Whether you undertake repairing scooters on your own or give the responsibility to another person the process will only be considered complete after the scooter is tested for performance.

Where is a good place to start learning motorcycle repair and overhaul?
i do not know the difference between an alternator and a carburetor. i would like to learn motorcycle engines and mechanics. where is a good place to look. (books, websites, or forums)
i don't want a job just an extensive hobby. nor do i want to go to school for this.
Go to the library and read every book on internal combustion engines.
Then read some more about how motorcycles work.

Search for an inexpensive vocational school teaching auto repair, or Small Engine repair. Some colleges offer short courses. (motorcycle repair can be hard to find).

The best place for access to a free Repair Manual is your local library.
Several companies print auto repair books, but my first choice is the Mitchell's manual for your specific vehicle year and make. The others have useful information, but Mitchell's is the one most nearly like the manufacturers!
Another place might be a "friendly" auto parts store. Some of them will let you have free access while in the store.

Dianne Monroe of San Antonio, TX is an Expressive Art Facilitator who combines eco-psychology in her work. She shares what she does and why she is called to this work.
GJC: What do you do?
DM: I am an Expressive Arts Facilitator, writer and photographer.
Much of my work is about facilitating reconnection (with our inner selves, with others, and with the natural world) and guiding people to discover, explore and deepen their understanding of their unique gifts and how they live them in this world. Through workshops, classes and consulting I offer my own blend of Expressive Arts and Eco-Psychology - using arts, creativity and nature to offer tools and pathways for healing, connection, a deeper understanding of self and as a guide in one's journey through life.
GJC: How have you prepared for your career?
DM: My life experiences have prepared me for what I do!
An early love of art and deep connection with others led to my work as a writer and photographer, and many years as an Arts Educator working with both children and adults.
Through my work as a writer and photographer I personally experienced the power of art and nature to touch hearts, change lives and express the intimate mysteries of the human spirit. As an Arts Educator, I felt great joy in my ability to offer this experience as a gift to others.
My personal journey to better understand this profound power led me to study Expressive Art, through the program led by Barbara Ganim at Salve-Regina University. During my studies, I discovered Eco-Psychology and began to develop my own way of blending these two fields (Expressive Arts and Eco-Psychology). Since that time I have deepened my conversation with the natural world, pursued further learning, and continued to evolve my work and what I offer to others.
GJC: Why are you called to this work?
DM: Again, life called me to do this work.
It was through my own artistic journey and life journey that I experienced again and again the profound power of art - to touch, heal, change. My many years as an Arts Educator showed me that this power lies within everyone.
For me, art and creativity are as natural and intrinsic to humanity as breathing - and can open us to new ways of experiencing, knowing and being in relationship with ourselves, others and our world. We are all artists and the most important artwork we are creating is our lives, our unique selves, and how we live our gifts in this world.
I am called to this work because I want to share the joy of this discovery with others.
GJC: Do you work with individuals? Groups? Workshops? Conventions? Conferences?
DM: I work with both groups and individuals. I offer workshops, classes and consulting. I have presented and brought workshops to conferences and also trained therapists, counselors, teachers and others in ways to integrate the arts into their work. I offer consulting on Expressive Arts and nature activities with youth. I can also work by phone.

How long can a AA battery power a LED?
I have a brand new AA battery powering a single LED (with resistor). How long do you think I can keep this LED on before the battery runs out of juice? (no, i dont know what resistor or LED strength I have, but it ...does that matter?) The LED is of standard brightness if that does matter.
Well there's a whole bunch of different variables there.
First, an alkaline AA battery can hold from 1700mAh to almost 3000 mAh (Wikipedia). This is what governs how long it will last. An LED typically draws around 30mA (I assume you're not using a very bright one). So if you have a 3000 mAh AA battery and you're drawing 30mA, expect it to last 100 hours.
However, this is immensely complicated by the resistor and by the fact that most standard LEDs don't even light until you're running with over 1.7V. So yes, we do need to know what sort of LED you're using and what the value of the resistor is before we can give a more precise answer.
Rough guess - hope for 50 to 100 hours.

Ways That Girls Braid Their Hair
Hair braiding is a way to style hair you can do at home, but it does involve a learning process. Once you know how to braid hair, you can transform your own or someone else's hair into a cute new style in just a few minutes. Here are some easy instructions on how to braid hair.
To braid another person's hair or do the front of your own head
The hair should be clean and dry. If it is wavy or curly, you may want to blow dry it straight first to make the braid more even. Add some styling gel to smooth any flyaways and make the hair more manageable. Comb the hair to remove tangles.
Divide the hair into three even sections. Place the left section between your left index finger and thumb, let the middle section hang free and place the right section between your right index finger and thumb.
Hold the middle section with your right middle finger and pull it so it passes behind the right section. Extend your right thumb and index finger so the right portion of hair becomes the new middle section.
Using the left middle finger, pull the middle section behind the left section. Extend or straighten the left index finger and thumb to move the left section into the middle.
Shift the portion of hair hooked in the right middle finger so it sits between the right index finger and thumb. Repeat the process. Then shift the portion of the hair hooked in the left middle finger so it sits between the left index finger and thumb.
Continue until the braid is the desired length. For a tighter, more compact braid, pull the middle section into a horizontal line as you move it to the right or left. If you prefer a loose, elongated braid, simply shift the middle section to the right or left, letting it remain in a vertical line.
When the braid is done, secure the end of the hair with a covered rubber band. Add a bow or barrette as desired.
Be sure to pull the portions of hair as evenly as possible so the tension remains consistent. If the tension is tighter on one side, your braid will twist to one side instead of lying flat. Avoid pulling too hard, as this may lead to hair damage.
Braiding the back of your own hair
Comb your hair before you begin and remove any tangles. Divide the hair into three even sections. Some people have found that if you braid your hair when it's damp, say 30 minutes to an hour after a shower or bath, it does not get frizzy and is easier to work with.
Lift your left elbow to shoulder height and make a thumbs down fist around the left portion of hair. Do the same on the Right Side, letting the middle portion lie against your spine.
Extend your left index finger and hook the right section of hair. Pull it in front of the middle section, letting it slip completely out of the Right Hand. Take the middle section of hair with your right hand, pull it to the right side, and then resume the thumbs down fist position with both hands.
Extending your right index finger, hook the far left portion of hair and let it slip completely out of the Left Hand. Shift the portion of hair in your left hand into a thumbs down fist and then release the left index finger. Make a thumbs down fist with your right hand and then use your left index finger to hook the far right section.
Continue the process until the braid is complete. To braid very long hair, you may have to free a hand to pull the sections through. Secure the braid as it develops by pressing your knuckles into it as you shift your hands for the next cross. Use a covered elastic to secure the finished braid and decorate as desired.
Experiment with using different hand positions. You may discover a technique that works better for you.
Practice leads to success
The first time you try to braid hair, it will go slowly. Practice your technique and be patient until you know how to braid hair. It may take some time to discover your rhythm. Braiding will become much easier with the more times you do it.
If you're braiding a young child's hair, ask that she keep her head still. Give her a hand mirror so she can watch you do the braiding. If her hair is too thin and fine for an elastic to hold the braid, use pipe cleaners. These come in many colors and children usually have them readily available.
When you're learning how to braid hair, it might help to visit a hair salon where they do braiding and watch the stylists braid their clients' hair. Another good practice technique is to braid the hair of a doll or hair mannequin.
