As befits one of the most vital parts of your vehicle's engine, your spark plugs require replacement every 24 months or 30,000 miles to maintain optimal fuel economy and engine performance. You can save some money by doing it yourself.
The interval varies depending on your vehicle's make and model. A vehicle equipped with the newer platinum-tipped plugs can go as far as 100,000 miles before plugs require replacement. Replacing your own is relatively easy, as you'll see from the instructions listed below.
The first thing you'll want to do is gather all the tools you'll need. Of course, you'll start with a set of new one. Add a 3/8" drive socket, extension and ratchet driver, a gap gauge, and a brush or rag and set aside some time.
Now we're all ready to gap your plugs. Correct gaps can be found on the engine specifications decal underneath the hood. It's a good practice to stick with the brand of plugs originally installed in your car at the factory. For Ford products they are Motorcraft, in General Motors products they are AC Delco; Chrysler products use Champion. Refer to a parts guide to find the correct type, or ask the salesperson in your local auto parts store.
Okay, let's get to work.
Never change your plugs without the engine being cold. Wait two hours after driving to let it cool off. Grasp the wire by the boot, give the wire a twist and cautiously pull the Spark Plug wire out of the end. Don't pull the wires themselves or you may damage them. TIP: changing the plugs one helps avoid mixing up the spark plug wires.
Use either a bicycle tire pump or an air compressor and pump a few bursts of air to rid the spark area of dirt, dust or gravel. Alternatively, clean off the old plug and the area around it with a rag or small brush. These steps help prevent any foreign material from falling down into the cylinder when the plug is removed.
Remove by turning it counterclockwise with a socket and ratchet. Spark sockets have rubber linings that prevent damaging the plug's ceramic case. Crack it loose, spin it out until it's off the threads, and take it out by hand.
OK, time to set the gap of the new plug with a gap gauge (Remember the proper gap is specified on the engine specs decal underside of the hood). You can buy a gap gauge at your auto parts store. Slide the correct thickness wire or feeler between the inner and outer electrodes at the tip of the plug. The feeler will slide between the electrodes with a slight drag when the plugs are properly gapped. If the gap isn't right, slightly bend the outer electrode until you achieve the right gap. Ensure the outer electrode is inline over the inner electrode.
Next, have a look at the cylinder head threads. Are they in Good Condition, clean, and free of dirt? New ones should freely screw into the cylinder head by hand. Any binding of the plug is an indication of debris or damage in the thread. TIP: lube the plug threads with a little grease or spray lubricant before you install them, this will make for an easier removal at your next spark plug change.
Insert the new plug into the hole by hand and turn it clockwise until it's snug. After finger tightening the plug, firmly torque it with your wrench/socket. Be careful not to over-tighten the plugs.
Reattach the correct plug wire to the new plug with a twist on the boot until it's firmly seated on top of the plug. You should feel and hear a click as the wire positively clamps onto the spark plug.
Repeat all the steps for the other plugs. Even taking your time this job will probably take you less than an hour. And that's it for another two years or 30,000 miles!

By the time you have been trying to start your lawn mower for a few minutes, you have probably tried some with the choke on, and then maybe your "helpful" neighbor came by and told you that you probably flooded the engine. So maybe you try starting it a few times with the throttle opened up a bit and the choke off. If you have a manual-start machine, you may be contemplating your impending chiropractic bill, and wondering whether hiring the neighbor's kid to mow your lawn might not be such a bad idea after all.
So why can it be so hard to start an engine that has been sitting idle for six months? If you examined the Spark Plug under a microscope, you might figure out the problem. If you look at the tip of the spark plug with your naked eye, it will probably look fine, but if you replace that plug with a brand new clean dry sparkplug, you would probably find that your lawn mower will likely start in seconds.
The key to the mystery lies in something at the microscopic level the happens on the surface of the ceramic insulator of a spark plug over time in a machine that is stored outdoors. As the temperature and the relative humidity cycles, day after day, over time, micro-droplets condense on and re-evaporate from the surface of the ceramic insulator of your spark plug. Each time these micro-droplets form, they rearrange the tiny carbon particles that were deposited on your spark plug the last time you ran your engine. The growing of the droplets as they form pushes those particles together into conductive pathways that wind up providing an alternate path for electrical current (across the surface of the ceramic insulator instead of across the spark gap) when you try to start your lawn mower.
The carbon particles don't quite short things out, but they provide a path whose electrical resistance is low enough so that there is no spark, or the spark has so little energy that it won't ignite the charge in the cylinder. Once the engine starts, the heat of the burns within the calendar clears up this problem in a few minutes, so when you go to start the engine again the next week, it starts fine.
One easy solution for this initial-start problem is to replace the spark plug. Of course, if you want a cheaper solution that doesn't require a trip to the store, I have one for you, and it comes in the form of a hot flame. A propane torch works best, but if you don't happen to have one handy, a butane lighter or a gas stove burner will do. You see, there is a reason that the ceramic insulator surrounding the center electrode of your spark plug is made of the particular material it is made of. The surface properties of that material actually catalyze the burning off of carbon deposits when the ceramic gets hot enough. Of course, when your lawn mower has not yet started, nothing has yet gotten it "hot enough".
To solve this problem, remove the spark plug from your lawn mower, and get a hot clean flame ready (either a propane torch or a butane lighter, or gas burner on a stove). Holding on to the end of the spark plug that usually connects to the spark plug wire, stick the other end (the spark end) of the spark plug into the flame for a few seconds while rotating the spark plug a few times, heating the center electrode and the surrounding ceramic. It only takes a few seconds. After you take the spark plug out of the flame, take a look at the ceramic material surrounding the center electrode.
You should notice that the ceramic insulator surrounding the center electrode of your spark plug is now bright white, where before it might have been off-white or gray. Now your spark plug is as good as new. Put it back in your lawn mower, and enjoy how it roars quickly to life!

i am 17 and i want to start doing small engine repair. I am very good at it and i know everything there is to know. I advertise on craigslist and people never seem to respond. How should i advertise my services?
Mate the best advertising is word of mouth especially with mechanics.
Do a few for friends of friends at a good price and let them do the advertising for you.
But remember it can work the other way just as quick is they are not happy with the work,there are plenty out there that give the industry a bad name for all.

Low Leakage Fans and Blowers
Canada Blower designs low leakage and gas tight blowers and fans for containment of hazardous inorganic and organic compounds in industrial manufacturing plants and other critical applications. Special alloy construction and shaft sealing devices are available for blower service requiring zero or minimal gas leakage into and out of casing.
Canada Blower has a lot of experince with gas tight and zero leakage construction on fans and blowers, including: multistage lip shaft seals; Buna-N, Viton and Teflon seals; mechanical shaft seals; special fan housing gasketings; single and double carbon ring seals; hermetically sealed blowers; magnetofluidic and ferrofluidic seals; and packed stuffing boxes with barrier liquids and purgeable seals.
Specific code welding processes and special fan design features are used too - to ensure complete gas tight integrity.
Zero leakage and gas tight fans and blowers could be used in the following industries:

Some special alloys and materials frequently used in gas tight fans, especially for service in hazardous, abrasive, corrosive and high temperature environments, include:

As an intermediate step between standrard fan design and air-tight design, Canada Blower offers a few stages of low leakage construction on fans and blowers - for industrial cusomers calling to minimize leakage fans due to the presence of toxic or corrosive gases in the airstream. As some system requirements are more stringent than others, and since some of the necessary modifications can be rather expensive, a few levels of Low Leakage Fan Construction are offered to choose from:
1) Contiunuosly welded fan housings;
2) Gas-purged mechanical shaft seals in lieu of lip seals - for greater sealing capability at the shaft hole opening;
3) Heavy gauge housing construction with solid housing drive side, Neoprene Gasketing, and Viton, or Buna-N Rubber lip type shaft seal;
4) Full face sheet gasketing, Red Silicone or White Nitrile.
I order to achieve a proper sealing, the mechanical shaft seal should be purged. The recommended purge pressure is 2 to 5 PSI above the process Gas Pressure.
Lip seals are furnished with two seal elements, each with a Stainless Steel spring for maintaining surface contact. The seal assembly is lubricated with" never-seeze". Mechanical seals are double or triple carbon ring seals mounted in a carbon steel housing. The seal housing is furnished with two purge ports.
To ensure proper fan sealing, Soap Bubble or Chalk / Kerosene tesing of the blower assembly is performed. This ensures that continuous weld has completely sealed the housing seams (liquid tight).

Location of resistor pack for blower motor on a 2000 Grand Prix?
Right Side of car under the dash. There will be a large circular thing, that is the blower motor and the resistor is located toward the firewall. It will have a Wiring Harness going to it. Remove the harness and take out the 3 - 7mm screws holding the pack in place. The 2 in the front will be very difficult to get to and you will most likely need to remove some insulation from the floor board to get to them.You may be able to just loosen the 2 front screws enough to get the pack out.
