We see trucks on the freeway everyday, but discount their importance to our way of life. Here is an overview of the history of the trucking industry and its importance.

The word truck comes from the Greek word "trochos" which means wheel. This is interesting because it reflects the idea that the earliest use of the invention that was to alter the world was the transportation of goods. It was always possible for humans to transport themselves rather easily by jumping on the back of a horse, but it was not possible to pack everything they owned on the animal's back. It was carts and wagons that were the first wheeled vehicles.

This is the purpose of the modern trucking industry. It moves material goods from one place to another. In the United States, goods have been moved long distances over a variety of highways. The first highways were the rivers, and barges and steamboats were the carriers. Next came the railroads and goods were moved over the iron rails that eventually ran from coast to coast. Wagons and carts continued to doing the hauling, and the first freight companies took on the task of transporting the goods from the river ports and railheads and distributing them to the surrounding areas.

The invention of the combustion engine was the revolutionary development that brought the truck to the forefront. Highways of asphalt began to connect every part of the country, and development no longer depended on the rivers and railroads. Today it is estimated that 81% of the value of the nation's freight moves by truck, and over 60% of its tonnage. This fact is evident to any traveler who is used to seeing the endless procession of tractor trailer haulers moving day and night over the Interstate highways, or lined up in rest areas and truck stops.

The importance of the trucking industry to the nation's economy is best illustrated by the amount of government regulation that it endures. The thought of a trucking strike has haunted the nation's leaders for many years. Trucks are truly the lifeline of the nation moving the food, fuel, and goods that are necessary to keep our world operating. There are large trucking companies with thousands of individual trucks, and small companies with only a hand full. There are independent haulers with only a single truck sometimes driven by a husband and wife team. They haul every thing that you could possibly imagine, and our world could not long survive without them. It has been a long way from that first two wheeled cart pulled by an ox to the eighteen wheel diesel driven giants that ply our highways today.

I do, many times I have had near accidents and was kept from being hurt.
One time I was driving a tractor thru a field and the engine Shut Off by itself just as the Front Wheels were about go into a deep gully.
Another time I was breaking a horse and he kicked out just as I was pushed by some force backwards, he only grazed my stomach.
Another time I was riding in a wagon that became disconnected from the tractor while going down a long hill the wagon picked up speed and then the wagon tongue dug into some soft earth and stopped.
There have been others and I realize non-believers will have many reasons that these were natural occurences, but when you are with the Lord you can see and understand His mighty powers at work.

Indeed I do. And for all those people who say, what about those people who die in car accidents and from Cancer..well..we all have an APPOINTED time to die. It doesn't matter how you die because moments before you die God will lift your soul up so you will no longer feel pain and will not remember it. Just as you came into this world at an APPOINTED day and time, you also have one to die. God leaves nothing up to fate. That is why it is important that you have faith and trust in him.

I have an old Toro Lawn Tractor (wheel horse) with a side exit 38" deck. Is it or can I get a muclhing one?

Going to get the model number tomorrow to get the exact age / type. Just spent a while raking the grass up so want to know if I can get a mulching deck / blades for it.

Depends on the deck. One thing to consider with a mulching deck is that you have to mow more frequently for the mulcher to work right. If you are cutting more than 3/4" then the deck looses its effectiveness of mulching the grass to find particles, and it overloads the deck causing clumping. So mulching might not be your answer.

Farmall Tractor Parts: Keeping an Original Row Crop Tractor Alive

Farmall Tractors are part of the Case IH family of tractors, but it was the original row crop tractor, that many manufacturers duplicated. For those that are familiar with old or antique tractors, it is a popular model among collectors, and many of them were capable of taking the place of the plow horses they replaced, back in the day. Like all good things, eventually these workhorse tractors would break down, but many farmers kept their Farmall Tractors going, part by part.

As tractor manufacturers became privy to the plight of selling new tractors to farmers that would keep their beloved Farmalls alive, Farmall tractor parts became more scarce for the older models, almost on purpose, it might have seemed. Today, many of the oldest tractors are in the hands of antique tractor collectors, although there are probably still some of them in existence and working on small family farms. Farmall tractor parts still enjoy a high demand, for this purpose.

Like many of the International Harvester brands of tractors, the Farmall tractor went through several model changes from its original prototype release in 1923. Through a combination of series, that evolved over a period of time, to perform additional duties, they would evolve from their original letter series to a "super series" that progressively demonstrated more tricks. This didn't daunt some of the die-hard Farmall fans that owned earlier series tractors, that were still in running condition and quite capable for what they needed.

It did, however, make it harder to find parts to keep them functioning and today there is still a demand for certain parts, for different series of the Farmall tractors. In the antique tractor collection market, Farmall tractor parts that are original to the tractors that are being restored to original equipment new can demand quite a high price, in some cases. With the Internet, it is possible to find the Farmall parts you need no matter, no matter what model or series the tractor.

Because the farming industry has had such rough times, especially through the past few decades, small farms started disappearing and many older small farm tractors, were left sitting in their tracks. As the farmland has been resold to investors for development or others that own large commercial farming operations, these older tractors have started re-surfacing and along with them, the interest in these antique tractors has increased.

The market for Farmall parts is a strong market, which indicates that there are still some capable of running. These restored, antique tractors have a market, all their own, much like the finest classic automobiles. The only difference is that many farmers loved their tractors more than they did much of anything else. For this reason, many of the tractors were well taken care of during their working life, because an entire family depended on their ability to function in the farming operations. Some of the Farmall tractors are still running and working, but many of them have been retired and are enjoying a restoration, which has caused the demand for Farmall tractor parts to increase.

Cub cadet 1250 International Garden Tractor no start.?

I bypassed the solenoid, the starter cranks and there is spark flickering at the end of the plug. Only turns over, will not start. Solenoid has two large nuts, one small one. First large nut goes to pos. side of battery, this is the one I crossed with the small nut. The second large nut goes to the alternator when crossed with hot lead, spins. Good spark. Cannot find any safety switches anywhere, under seat, deck, nowhere. Engine will not crank at all when turning switch on dash. no spark at the plug unless switch is in "on" position. Also turns over with PTO engaged,, which is should not. also turns over whether clutch is in or out. Not sure if condensor is a factor or not since I do have a real good spark snap at the plug. ( yes, it has gas!!!) Thanks

There is a seat safety, you just haven't found it...there is also either a shift/neutral safety, or some kind of clutch safety. Again, you just haven't found it...

As for not starting with the key, either one of those safeties is "open", or you lost the ground between the switch and frame...got rusty bolts on the frame panels?

As for the engine not starting, have you cleaned the Air Filter recently??? Have you verified that fuel is getting through that little Fuel Filter in the line to the engine? Or does it just "smell" flooded? Go back to safeties and switch...

Also check the ignition fuse, usually in a single fuse holder somewhere...
