How can you tell if your lawnmower is clipping your grass properly? Here’s a simple test; after you have finished mowing, bend down and pluck a few blades of the grass for a close-up examination. If your mower blade is sharp, the cut edge of the grass will appear evenly sheared as if it had been cut straight across with a pair of scissors; if the cut edge is uneven and jagged, the blade is not adequately sharpened and is actually tearing off the top of the grass blades rather than cutting them.
What are the negative effects of tearing rather than cutting the grass? Appearance and health; first of all, the top edges of the torn grass will quickly turn brown as the moisture dries from the damaged part of the grass blades. This damage will weaken the grass plants and make them more susceptible to disease. Imagine what the result would be if you used a stick to knock off the tender new growth of an azalea, boxwood, or other shrub in order to prune it back, shape it, or control its growth! This is what a dull lawnmower blade does to your millions of tiny tender grass plants.
Cutting the grass with a dull blade is also a drag to the lawnmower itself—literally. The engine of the mower is under a greater strain, working harder than it should have to in order to push the dull edge of the blade through the grass. This strain can shorten the life of the engine since it is not able to operate at maximum efficiency; it also increases gas consumption.
Since we know now that a well-sharpened lawnmower blade is important to the health of the grass and to the life of the machine, how do we go about achieving the desired sharpness? With knowledge and caution, of course! First of all, put on a good thick pair of work gloves before you begin your sharpening adventure; there are lots of opportunities for scraping, mashing, cutting, and otherwise damaging your fingers in the process of removing a blade from a lawnmower, sharpening the blade, and properly securing it back onto the mower. You’ll need a Short Block of wood (about a foot long piece of 1”X2” pine works well), to wedge between the end of the blade and the underside wall of the cutting deck to keep the blade from free-wheeling as you loosen the bolt that holds the blade on. It is much easier to use a ratchet and the proper size socket to loosen and re-tighten the bolt than it is to use an open end, box end, or adjustable wrench. For walk-behind mowers, whether they be the 21 Inch Cut single blade kind or the larger deck 3 blade variety, tilt the Mower Deck up by pushing the handlebar down to the ground and securing the front edge of the deck off the ground with concrete blocks. The smaller mowers can be turned up on their side briefly to gain access to the blade, if you do not work too slowly, causing the gasoline to spill from the top of the Gas Tank.
The preferred method of sharpening is with the use of a bench-mounted emery stone electric grinder. Hold the blade securely with both hands and move it slowly along the surface of the spinning stone, being careful to maintain the original angle of the cutting edge of the blade. If you do not have a bench grinder at home, I recommend taking the blade to a professional lawnmower shop and having them sharpen the blade for you. The expense of this procedure is small and the results are well worth it in order to have a properly sharpened blade. Sharpening devices are available that can be used with your portable drill, but the results obtained are usually not very acceptable, and you certainly can not do much useful sharpening with a file or other hand tools.

I have a 46" cutting deck and I want to install a bagger. Do I have to install the new blades?
I purchased a Twin Bagger to go with my Riding Mower. The bagger came with 3 blades and the instructions say to install the new blades if you have a 46" deck. Is this really necassary? Or will it work with the blades that are already on the mower? I really don't want to take off the deck if I don't have to.
For bagging, the blades must have a twist in them that acts like a fan blade, to blow the clippings into the bag. If the original blades have sufficient "blow" to them then you are okay.
Try it. If the transfer chute gets clogged with grass clippings- then you need the new blades.

What to do about local pound?
I went to the pound yesterday and I found several problems with it. First of all...it was in the middle on nowhere. Second, there were no signs indicating that it was a dog pound. Third, gates were locked and I went during business hours. Forth, they have a huge pond and lots of tall grass and I'm sure the mosquitos are really bad (causes heart worms), Fifth, they dont spay or neutur them, they dont update them on vaccines, they dont remove ticks and fleas before placing them in a home. They dont receive any kind of medical attention at all. I had to call the city to call the dog catcher to meet me at the dog pound so I can be let in. They are not even in the book so it's hard to even know that there is a dog pound in town. So my question is, what I can do? They dont hire volunteers for some reason so I cant do that. Anyone I can contact? Anything I can do to help? I found out that 80% of their dogs get euthanized but I'm sure it's because no one is aware that it's even there.
The best thing to do, would be to put them in the local newspaper and news cast. Call up your local news station/paper, and pitch the story. This will bring to light these issues, so that more people are informed...rather than just you. Don't underestimate the public embarassment factor.

Choosing the Best Mini Digger For Your Job
With all the models of Mini Diggers for sale on the market one can easily become overwhelmed. There are brands like Volvo that which make a lot of other products, and then Bobcat who seems to stick mostly to machinery for its income. Yanmar, Komatsu and Kubota are other familiar names in the industry. All of these companies have Mini Diggers for sale and are reliable manufacturers. How does one choose with so many products available?
While most brands of mini diggers are available worldwide, having a dealership in your area is an important factor. Long trips for service and parts can overcome any savings you may have made on the original purchase price.
The location of the dealer is important if you are working locally, but if working nationally or worldwide you need to choose a dealer who is well represented in all countries.
The particular model can also be a consideration. Just a few inches difference in the size of a Mini Digger will determine your access to certain areas. Fitting between buildings and through gates is a major factor in choosing a Mini Digger in the first place.
Two very important features are adjustable tracks and the ability to turn within its width. A feature that Yanmar and other manufacturers have on its Mini Diggers. Bobcat also has the ability to turn within its width and boasts an x shaped under frame that does not collect debris as easily as other designs.
All of the companies mentioned offer tight turning radius but there are some slight differences that could be a determining factor. Some of them reduce their track width to smaller sizes than the others.
If you want to work with the door open you should check if that is possible. An actual visit to the dealer is practically a must for choosing the Mini Digger that will best suit your needs.
Volvo offers a guarantee of easily accessed technical support. They also have a large network of parts providers. Another of their features is a two-speed drive so you can go faster between digging locations on site.
Komatsu has most of the same features, and like the others, offers the option of an open canopy as opposed to an enclosed cabin operating area. This is a consideration both in cost and the comfort of the operator. Your climate in your area would be a factor, but you also need to consider this option if working worldwide.
Kubota may be best known for its production of small diesel engines. They are on the leading edge of technology of the production of multi fueled engines for Mini Diggers. In areas where some fuels may not be readily available this is something to consider.
All of the Mini Diggers for sale are very similar so the process of elimination will probably hinge on the little things.
Tow hooks and lifting hooks can become important when you discover you need them but they are not on your mini digger. These items aren't always mentioned in brochures or technical data but are very important.
With this many choices, and so many similarities in features, cost and service would probability be the final factor in determining your choice of Mini Diggers.

What is the life expectancy of a 3 cylinder Kubota Tractor engine?
Just bought a Kubota G 1800 HST 4 Wheel Stearing, Diesel tractor. It has 1200 hours on it. It has 16 hp and is 3 cylinders. How much life can I expect for this engine?
When the tractor wears out and is no longer worth fixing.
The guys here pull the engines and put them in Geo Metros or in jacked up Club Car Carryalls.
They work for another ten years like this.
I have my eye on a Ransomes greens mower with one of those engines.
I want to build a three cylinder diesel car.
Very tough engine.
Will last forever or until it overheats once.
They don't like to get hot.

9n ford upside down,,,,,now wont start

Ok,,I will need help on this one,,,,Freak acident and the 9n end up turned over tires looking at the moon.
Besides scratches and new dents ,,the fan went and damage the radiator,
Engine Oil and Hydraulic Oil leaked for a while till I got the tractor back to normal,
I replaced the radiator,,,the muffler ,,changed the engine oil and hydraulic as well.
I took the spark plugs and cleaned them good ( Just had replaced 2 weeks ago )
The machine cranks strong but wont start,
any ideas what else could got bad?
